Client Challenge

Design a contemporary residence in a high fire hazard area that balances resilience, sustainability, speed of construction, and architectural quality without relying on conventional wood framing.

Inquiry

How can advanced steel panelized construction create homes that are safer, more resilient, and better suited for California's evolving environmental challenges?

Strategy

Leverage a precision-engineered 2D steel panelized building system to improve fire resistance, structural performance, construction efficiency, and long-term durability while maintaining complete architectural design flexibility.

Solution

A contemporary custom residence utilizing prefabricated steel wall, floor, and roof panels that demonstrates how off-site manufacturing and resilient building systems can redefine custom home construction in wildfire-prone regions.

Impact

Villa Temecula illustrates that resilient design and innovative construction are not competing priorities. By integrating advanced panelized steel technology with thoughtful architecture, the project offers a model for the next generation of homes in California's high fire risk communities.

Client Challenge

Rebuild a fire-destroyed home in Pacific Palisades using a resilient, non-combustible construction system while creating a contemporary residence that respects the neighborhood's scale rather than contributing to oversized "McMansion" development.

Inquiry

How can a fire rebuild become an opportunity to create a home that is safer, more resilient, and more thoughtfully connected to its site and community?

Strategy

Pair 3D volumetric steel modular construction with a series of sculptural, human-scaled pavilions, integrating fire-resistant materials and precision off-site manufacturing to accelerate rebuilding while elevating architectural quality.

Solution

A two-story, like-for-like residence composed of skewed pavilion forms clad in limestone, vertical metal siding, and fiber cement panels. The all-steel modular system delivers exceptional fire resilience while creating a contemporary home that is both sculptural and deeply livable.

Impact

The Erskine Drive Residence demonstrates that post-fire rebuilding can be about more than replacing what was lost. It offers a new model for resilient residential architecture—one that combines advanced off-site construction, fire-resistant design, and a human-scaled architectural expression capable of strengthening communities as they rebuild. Contemporary rebuilding efforts in the Palisades increasingly emphasize non-combustible steel systems and wildfire resilience, reflecting the broader direction this project represents.

Client Challenge

Design affordable housing that could be delivered efficiently through advanced modular construction while creating an architectural identity that celebrates dignity, community, and hope.

Inquiry

How can affordable housing become more than shelter—serving as a civic landmark that reflects the aspirations and freedoms of the people it serves?

Strategy

Integrate state-of-the-art volumetric modular construction with factory-installed unitized façade and roof systems, while transforming the building's elevator tower into a powerful public artwork visible from one of Los Angeles' most recognizable gateways.

Solution

An affordable housing community utilizing advanced off-site manufacturing and precision unitized envelope systems. The eight-story laser-cut elevator tower forms an abstract image of the Statue of Liberty, creating a sculptural landmark visible from the flight path to Los Angeles International Airport.

Impact

Liberty Ramsgate demonstrates that affordable housing can embody both technical innovation and civic expression. By combining advanced modular construction with architecture that symbolizes hope, freedom, and belonging, the project challenges conventional expectations of affordable housing and redefines its role within the urban landscape.

Client Challenge

Rebuild a family home lost to fire in Altadena while creating a residence, painting studio, and workshop that reflected the creative lives of its owners. The new home needed to honor the character of the site, embrace a modest scale, and provide spaces that nurtured both everyday living and artistic expression.

Inquiry

How can rebuilding after loss create not just a new house, but a home that becomes a true extension of the people who live and create within it?

Strategy

Design a carefully proportioned single-story residence inspired by Mid-Century Modern architecture and the Japanese concept of the Engawa—the threshold between house and garden. Through an intensely collaborative design process, the architecture evolved around the clients' creative practices, with a dedicated painting studio and workshop forming an integral part of daily life rather than an afterthought.

Solution

A traditionally crafted wood-frame residence organized around a contemporary Engawa, where generous roof overhangs, natural materials, and seamless indoor-outdoor connections foster a quiet dialogue between architecture and landscape. The detached studio and workshop create a dedicated environment for artistic exploration, allowing the home to function equally as a place for living and creating.

Impact

The Mendocino Residence demonstrates that the most enduring architecture is deeply personal. By rebuilding around the lives, passions, and creative pursuits of its owners, the project transforms recovery into renewal, proving that a home can become a living expression of resilience, craftsmanship, and identity.

Client Challenge

Develop a prototype residence that explores the future of housing through 3D-printed concrete construction while achieving exceptional thermal performance, structural efficiency, architectural freedom, and production scalability for an emerging residential community in Texas.

Inquiry

How can additive manufacturing fundamentally transform the way we design, build, and experience housing?

Strategy

Combine freeform 3D-printed concrete walls that harness thermal mass with ultra-lightweight, high-strength roof and interior wall systems. Treat the residence not simply as a custom home, but as a full-scale research and development platform capable of informing an entire neighborhood of future homes.

Solution

A hybrid residential prototype that integrates additive manufacturing with advanced lightweight building technologies. The sculptural printed concrete shell provides thermal stability, structural performance, and architectural expression, while precision-engineered roof and interior panel systems demonstrate how multiple emerging technologies can work together as a complete building system.

Impact

The Marfa Residence moves beyond demonstrating a new construction technique—it establishes a new architectural paradigm. As a full-scale research prototype for an upcoming 3D-printed residential community, the project explores how automation, material innovation, environmental performance, and design freedom can converge to shape the next generation of housing.

Inquiry

How can rebuilding after loss become an opportunity to create a home that is more resilient, more inspiring, and more deeply connected to its context?

Strategy

Combine 3D volumetric steel modular construction with a site-responsive architectural composition that preserves the natural terrain, embraces expansive Pacific views, and creates gallery-like grand space for art, light, and everyday living.

Solution

A contemporary modular residence that integrates precision off-site construction with sculptural architecture, transforming a constrained hillside into a gabled light-filled & vaulted living space where nature, art, and architecture exist in harmony.

Impact

Villa Castellammare demonstrates that rebuilding is not simply about replacing what was lost. It is about creating something stronger, more resilient, and more meaningful—a home that rises from the ashes as an enduring expression of hope, perseverance, and the transformative power of architecture.
